La découverte du site funéraire du Petit-Chasseur à Sion remonte à juillet 1961.
Olivier-Jean Bocksberger est chargé de la fouille des premières tombes, il découvre
qu'elles sont construites avec des stèles gravées anthropomorphes, attribuables au
Néolithique final. Pendant plus de douze ans, des fouilles systématiques amènerons
des révélations fabuleuses sur plus de deux millénaires de l'histoire valaisanne.

The burial site of Sion/Petit-Chasseur was discovered in July 1961. Olivier-Jean
Bocksberger was put in charge of excavating the first graves and he found that these
were built with decorated anthropomorphic stelae dating back to the Late Neolithic period.
During more that twelve years, the systematic research on the site revealed more than two
millennia of the amazing history of the Valais region.
