The Beaker period lasted about 1000 years, namely the whole 3rd millenium BC. It takes its name from beakers discovered throughout Western Europe, mostly in funeral contexts. |
|
In such a context, the anthropomorphic steles discovered at the Petit-Chasseur in Sion, Switzerland, along with dolmens, are the witnesses of a war hierarchy.
Sumptuously embellished beakers and bowmenâs equipment lie with dead in the megalithic burial places, in front of which the steles are erected, in all likelihood representing people of rank. |
